HSE Approved Emergency First Aid At Work (EFAW)
Course overview:
This course provides essential basic knowledge & skills to take charge at the scene of an
accident & to provide emergency first aid in the absence of a fully qualified first aider. It is
suitable for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge & skills in first aid.
Validation:
3 years. Lifeskills Medical award. HSE approved. MTA approved, Resuscitation Council (UK)
recognised.
Course length:
1 day. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on client's premises
subject to suitable training facilities being available.
Requirements:
None.
Course includes:
Incident management, first aid equipment & supplies, simple record keeping, advice on
hygiene, hepatitis B, HIV & AIDS, dealing with an unconscious casualty, basic life support,
control of bleeding, recognition & treatment of shock, head injuries.

Course overview:
This course is for persons selected to be the recognised first aider in the workplace, & meets
the standards required by the Health & Safety Executive to achieve the Certificate of First Aid
at Work. This course meets the requirements of the HSE (First Aid) Regulations (1981).

3 years. Lifeskills Medical award. Health & Safety Executive approved. MTA approved.
Resuscitation Council (UK) recognised.

Course includes:
Legal aspects, risk assessment, fractures, spinal injury, muscle & joint injury, basic life
support, care of the unconscious casualty, heart attack, angina, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma,
shock, poisons, bleeding, crush injuries, casualty examination, transport, head injuries, eye
injuries, first aid equipment, record keeping, burns, scalds, chemical burns, electrical burns,
hygiene, hepatitis B, HIV & AIDS.
     
HSE First Aid At Work (FAW) Refresher (Re-qualification)
Course overview:
This course is designed to train & re-certificate the First Aid at Work qualification. It is
intended for persons who already hold a valid HSE Approved First Aid at Work certificate
which is nearing expiry.
Validation:
3 years. Lifeskills Medical award. Health & Safety Executive approved. MTA approved.
Resuscitation Council (UK) recognised.
Course length:
2 days. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on client's premises

Paediatric First Aid. BTEC Level 2 (Edexcel) (OFSTED & PFAA Approved)
Course overview:
This course is a BTEC Level 2 award designed to train & certificate persons in paediatric
emergency first aid & medical emergencies. This course meets the criteria for first aid training
stipulated by OFSTED. It is suitable for those working in early years settings or with children &
young people in a health & social care setting.
Validation:
3 years. Level 2 BTEC (Edexcel) award. Lifeskills Medical award. OFSTED approved.
PFAA approved.
Course length:
2 days. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on client's premises
subject to suitable training facilities being available.

Course includes:
Recognising & responding to the unwell child, minor illness, major illness, care of the
unconscious child, managing an emergency situation.
   
First Person On Scene (FPOS) Basic. BTEC Level 2 IHCD (Edexcel)
Course overview:
This course is designed to give those involved in prehospital care the vital knowledge &
techniques necessary to manage the ill or injured casualty within the first few minutes until
handover to a medical service. The qualification has been developed with the NHS Ambulance
services and is clinically endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care. FPOS also meets the
Security Industry Authority first aid requirements for close protection.

3 years. Level 2 BTEC award IHCD (Edexcel).

Course includes:
Pre-hospital environment, patient assessment, respiration & airway management, basic life
support, defibrillation, circulation & shock, medical & trauma related emergencies.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Competent User
Course overview:
This course is designed for anyone who has access to an Automatic External Defibrillator
either at work or during recreation. It is an essential course for any organisation that is
making an AED available to their staff or customers.
Validation:
2 years. Lifeskills Medical award. MTA approved, EIHS approved. Resuscitation Council (UK)
recognised.
Course length:
1 day. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on client's premises
subject to suitable training facilities being available.
Requirements:
None.
Course includes:
Basic life support, basic airway management, chain of survival, requirements of an AED
