Driver Training |
Overview:
This course (residential recommended) at the ALS Training Centre Stafford,
will develop driving skills to the highest professional standards, in
line with the Ambulance Driving Manual, Highway Code and the Road Traffic
Act. By the end of the course, the student should be able to drive an
ambulance safely, smoothly, systematically and progressively under all
road and traffic conditions. D1 is part of the PTS and Technician training
and consists of theoretical knowledge of the Highway Code, Road Traffic
Law, and the Ambulance Driving Manual. The largest part of the course
is dedicated to the improvement of basic driving skills. D2 is specifically
designed for aspects of driving common to both non-emergency and emergency
situations. Together with the Ambulance Technician programme, leads
to the IHCD Ambulance Technician Award
Entry
requirements:
All applicants must hold a current UK driving licence valid.
Course
includes:
Observation skills, braking, steering, gear changing, basic implementation
of the road craft system of driving, overtaking, corners and bends,
reversing and manoeuvring, hazard awareness, motorway driving, night
driving, skid avoidance,
the ability to assess the need for an emergency response, the ability
to drive the vehicle safely to emergencies, the ability to demonstrate
the correct attitude when responding to emergencies. |
