Overview:
This course is a practical in-depth study of medical emergencies, where
the curriculum is designed to allow for a minimal amount of lecture
and an ample amount of scenarios simulating actual hands-on physical
assessment of patients. The course is designed to apply critical thinking
skills to integrate patho-physiology with the assessment findings of
a medical patient, determine and differentiate between actual and potential
patient problems, advance the student's ability to conduct a competent
medical examination that utilises proper diagnostic skills with critical
thinking and interventions, advance the student's ability to utilise
problem-solving strategies in interventions and management alternatives
and advance the student's ability to communicate the pertinent findings
and interventions to the teaching faculty.
Entry
requirements:
All applicants should be able to show, as a minimum, evidence of training
undertaken at EMT or equivalent standard.
Course
includes:
Interactive lectures, teaching and evaluation stations covering: patient
assessment, airway management, assessment of shock, dyspnea/respiratory
failure, chest pain, altered mental status, abdominal pain. |
