Training Courses Frequently Asked Questions

What clinical standards & operating guidelines do your courses meet?
All training meets the latest standards as set by the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC), the guidelines set by Edexcel (IHCD), the Emirates Institute for Health and Safety (EIHS), the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), and the UK Resuscitation Council (RCUK). When training overseas, the national and local medical and procedural protocols are recognised, adopted, and applied.

Are there age limits for those attending courses?
The minimum age limit for all courses is16, but the prerequisite of certain courses will naturally push up the average age of attendance. There is no upper age limit.

Are the courses physically demanding?
Not particularly, but the courses are primarily designed for rescue personnel, first aiders, EMS crews etc, so a degree of moving and handling of people and equipment is essential.
What accommodation is local to you?
There are several excellent local hotels and B&B's that we can recommend. We will be pleased to advise you.

Do you have free car parking facilities at the Stafford EMS Training Centre?
Yes, we have free on-site parking
for over 50 vehicles
What are the pre-course study requirements?
Some courses require student notes to be sent to you two weeks before your course starts. Notes may be of a subject background information nature, or contain information essential to your understanding of the course. You should study these notes before your arrival. For certain courses, on-line pre-course assessments are carried out.
Will you advise me to re-qualify when my certificate is close to expiry?
Yes we will do this automatically to the last address that we have for you, when your certification has 3 months left

What certificates do you issue at the end of the course?
Lifeskills Medical display, and personal photo ID certificates are provided for all courses. Course certification for successful students is issued within 10 days of the course end. External accreditation (where appropriate), is issued as soon as the accreditation body's verification process is completed. We also sell EMT uniform badges to qualified students.

Do you guarantee that I will pass my course?
No we don't. Courses are based on skills competency not just on attendance. Whilst some people are unable to meet the required pass standards, we will identify early on in your course if you are having difficulty, and we will help you as much as we can to ensure a positive outcome, but because you are learning to deal effectively with emergency situations, the required standards are high, and you need to work to develop your knowledge and skills to earn the end certification.

What qualifications are equivalent to the HSE First Aid at Work certificate?
Some courses require a known level of training to have been completed before you start the course. For example, FPOS (Intermediate) from IHCD and military CMT 1 meet our requirements. Call us - we will be pleased to advise further.

What qualifications are equivalent to the EMT certificate?
There are a number of European and non- European qualifications that we will accept. If you can provide us with evidence of the completed outcomes of the course you have studied then this is helpful to us in determining your suitability. Entry criteria is not always rigid for every course - equivalent qualifications you may hold, and relevant work experience are considered. Call us, to discuss your prior learning, and options to best suit your needs - we will be pleased to advise you further.

Does advanced training put rescuers at a greater risk of getting sued?
An EMS provider who actively seeks out the most appropriate education available and who gains the confidence to use the knowledge and skills in a prudent manner is better protected against medical liability than a rescuer who avoids such training.

Is instruction available to meet overseas local
protocols?
Many of our course qualifications are internationally recognised. We work to ensure effective & appropriate outcomes by applying adjustments for local protocols. We will also provide interpreters if preferred.
After training can I work with you on events cover or on operational duties?
We are always looking for keen parttime 'bank' staff that we can call on for operational ambulance duties and evening or weekend event work. Our pay rates are good with uniform provided, and the hands-on experience you will gain, will compliment your training and give you greater confidence. Contact us for an events staff application form.
