IHCD (EDEXCEL) ADVANCED TRAINING
 


      IHCD Ambulance Technician
     
Validation:   IHCD (Edexcel) Award.
     
Course overview:   This course is the first part of the development towards IHCD Technician. The course has 3
    modules (D,E & F) and students must complete theoretical and practical assessments set by
    IHCD. Full qualification as an IHCD Ambulance Technician is dependent on satisfactory
    completion of a 1 year probationary period with an ambulance organisation providing
    operational duties for an NHS Ambulance Service Trust. This includes a workbased
    assessment programme, demonstrating competency in all key skills. Lifeskills Medical cannot
    guarantee after-course probationary placement, but will work closely with you to assist in such
    placement.
     
Course length:   8 weeks (8 x 5 days). Course held at Lifeskills Medical
    EMS Training Centre Stafford.
     
Requirements:   All applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age, pass arranged health screening, and
  Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks. Applicants must hold a current full UK manual driving
  licence (held for at least 2 years).
     
Course includes:   Anatomy and physiology of and injuries and diseases of the following systems: respiratory,
    cardio vascular, nervous, digestive, reproductive, & skeletal. Emergency childbirth, ambulance
    equipment, moving & handling, advanced life support, assisting the paramedic. An important
    part of Technician training involves developing the behaviour and attitudes required of a
    member of a uniformed, disciplined service and this is reflected in the high personal standards
    expected of students whilst attending the Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre.
     
     
NEW 2010   IHCD D1, D2, & Emergency Services Driver Training
     
Validation:   IHCD (Edexcel) Award (D1/D2).
 
Course overview:   This course will develop driving skills to the professional standard required by UK NHS
  Ambulance Service Trusts. Using emergency services dedicated training vehicles, the student
  will be taught to drive an ambulance (DVLA Category B, 3,500Kg) safely, smoothly,
    systematically and progressively under all road and traffic conditions in line with the IHCD
    Ambulance Driving Manual. D1 (5 days) consists of practical systematic driving, knowledge of
    the Highway Code, Road Traffic Law, and the Ambulance Driving Manual. D2 (10 days) covers
    advanced driving techniques in non-emergency and emergency situations as per the
    Ambulance Driving Manual and the Police Foundation manual "Roadcraft".
     
Course length:   3 weeks (3 x 5 days) Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford.
   
Requirements:   All applicants must hold a current UK driving licence, which ideally should include DVLA
    categories C1 & D1.
     
Course includes:   Observation skills, braking, steering, gear changing, basic implementation of the road-craft
    system of driving, overtaking, corners & bends, reversing & manoeuvring, hazard awareness,
    motorway driving, night driving, skid avoidance, assessing the need for an emergency
    response, the ability to drive the vehicle safely to emergencies, the ability to demonstrate the
    correct attitude when responding to emergencies.
     
     
PROPOSED 2010   IHCD Paramedic (in line with requirements for HPC State Registration)
     
Validation:   IHCD (Edexcel) Award.
     
Course overview:   This course leads to the IHCD Paramedic qualification. The course is divided into three
    modules (G, H, & I) and each module requires the successful completion of written papers and
    practical assessments set by IHCD. During the first 6 week part of the course the student will
    study and practise the paramedic skills. Following successful completion of the centre-based
    training the student will attend a 6 week period of hospital training during which they will be
    trained and supervised by a Consultant Anaesthetist in the practical skills required of a
    Paramedic.
     
Course length:   12 weeks (12 x 5 days). Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford.
  Accreditation for Prior Learning may be available to overseas students wishing to take this
 
    course - all enquiries for APL are determined by the Health Professions Council.

Course includes:   In depth anatomy and physiology covering: respiratory system, cardio vascular system,
    nervous system, reproductive system and obstetrics, paediatrics, recognition and paramedic
    treatment of: respiratory injuries and diseases, cardiac injuries and diseases, nervous system
    injuries and diseases, digestive system injuries and diseases, skeletal system injuries and
    diseases. Trauma, emergency childbirth, paediatrics, advanced life support, intravenous
    cannulation, intubation, chest decompression, needle crycothyroidotomy, intra osseous
