    AED & Medical Gases (O2 & N2O2) Administration Competent User
     
Validation:   1 year. Lifeskills Medical Award, EIHS Approved, MTA Approved, Resuscitation Council (UK)
    Recognised.
     
Course overview:   This combined course will train and certificate persons in the correct use of AED's in
  accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines. It is suitable for anyone who has
  access to an AED and may respond to a cardiac arrest situation. It also provides necessary
  knowledge and skills to enable the safe administration of oxygen and nitrous oxide (Entonox)
  by emergency medical service & rescue personnel, and authorised first aiders, as part of their
  first aid role.
     
Course length:   1 day. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on Client's own site
  subject to suitable training facilities being available.
     
Requirements:   All applicants should be able to show evidence of first aid training undertaken (First Aid at
  Work or equivalent standard).
     
Course includes:   Basic life support, basic airway management, chain of survival, requirements of an AED
  programme, protocols and procedures, AED safety precautions, reporting resuscitation
  attempts, O2 and N2O2 equipment checks and assembly, O2 and N2O2 administration .
  procedures and delivery systems, risk assessment, hazards precautions and contra indications
  when using O2 and N2O2, using manual and automatic aspirators, administration procedures
     
     
2010 REVISED   Emergency Medical Technician
     
Validation:   2 years. Lifeskills Medical Award, EIHS Approved, MTA Approved. This course is accepted by
    IHCD as an instructors certificate for personnel who wish to instruct on the IHCD FPOS Basic &
  Intermediate course.
     
Course overview:   This course provides increased knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of
  medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital environment, using techniques and
  equipment beyond the scope of basic first aid. It is suitable for any person who may have to
  manage medical or trauma patients in the prehospital care role, in particular - emergency
  medical service and rescue personnel, on-site company ambulance staff and first aiders who
  wish to extend their basic skills.
   
 
Course length:   5 days. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on Client's own site
  subject to suitable training facilities being available.
   
 
Requirements:   All applicants should be able to show evidence of first aid training undertaken (First Aid at
  Work or an equivalent standard), and held for a minimum of 1 year.
     
Course includes:   Basics of mechanism of injury, airway management, oxygen and Entonox administration,
  primary & secondary patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, angina & myocardial
  infarction, chest abdominal & limb trauma, cardiogenic & hypovolaemic shock, anaphylaxis,
  drowning, AED protocols, application of splints, head & spinal trauma, spinal immobilisation
  using long spinal boards, orthopaedic scoop stretchers, KED's, head blocks, management of
  asthma diabetes & seizures, burns management, management of a cerebrovascular accident,
  injury in pregnancy, triage systems, IV fluids.
     
 
    First Person On Scene (FPOS) Intermediate
   
Validation: 3 years. Edexcel IHCD Award.
   
Course overview: This IHCD course is designed to give increased knowledge and skills to those involved in pre-
  hospital care to help enable them to manage the ill or injured casualty within the first few
  minutes until handover to a medical service.
   
Course length: 5 days. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on Client's own site
  subject to suitable training facilities being available.
   
Requirements: All applicants should be able to show, as a minimum, evidence of first aid training undertaken
  (First Aid at Work or equivalent standard).
   
Course includes: Pre-hospital environment, scene management, patient assessment, primary survey, safe
  moving & handling, respiration & airway management, oro-pharyngeal airways, O2
  supplementation, basic life support, defibrillation, heart rhythms, circulation & shock, medical
  & trauma related emergencies.
   
   
  Immediate Life Support
   
Validation: 1 year. Resuscitation Council (UK) Award
   
Course overview: This course provides increased knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of
  basic life support, airway management and safe defibrillation. Designed to train emergency
  healthcare personnel as members of the cardiac arrest team. It is also suitable for personnel
  required to manage patients in cardiac arrest until the arrival of trauma trained personnel.
   
Course length: 1 day. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on Client's own site
  subject to suitable training facilities being available.
   
Requirements: All applicants should be able to show, as a minimum, evidence of first aid training undertaken
  (First Aid at Work or equivalent standard).
   
Course includes: Introduction of cardiac arrest rhythms, universal algorithms, basic life support, airway management, ventilation techniques, drug delivery.
   
   
  Incident Management Operational Response
   
Validation: Lifeskills Medical investigation & report
   
Course overview: This course tests and assesses procedures and actions of incident managers in charge of
  rescue personnel, and first aid teams in their normal workplace in situations using scenarios
  prepared by our instructors using live simulated casualties. Triage prioritising at major
  incident situations, and management of trauma and rescue is assessed.
   
Course length: 1 day. Course held on client's premises.
   
Requirements: None, this course is designed for medium to large organisations that have a number of first
  aiders or an emergency medical service on site.
   
Course includes: Risk assessment & procedures for emergencies, simulated workplace accidents, identifying
  response times, procedural problems, assessing rescue & first aid procedures, assessing
  operational management & leadership of the situation. Scenario debrief includes
  recommended procedural and skills training.
   
       
  NEW 2010   Basic Life Support Paediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (BLS - PEPP)

  Course overview:   This course is designed to give prehospital providers the education, skills, and confidence they
  need to effectively treat pediatric patients. Developed by the American Academy of
  Paediatrics, the course provides a comprehensive source of prehospital medical information
  for the emergent care of infants and children. The course teaches prehospital professionals
  how to better assess and manage ill or injured children by determining how sick is this child?,
  how quickly do I need to act?, what is this child's physiological problem? This is a
  comprehensive, innovative, and highly visual course with case-based lectures, live action
  video, hands-on skills stations, and small group scenarios

  respiratory emergencies, emergency delivery and newborn stabilization, cardiovascular
  emergencies, medical emergencies, scenario skill practice.
       
       
  NEW 2010   HSE Approved Offshore First Aid (OFAR)
       
  Validation:   3 years. Lifeskills Medical Award Health & Safety Executive Approved. MTA Approved,
      Resuscitation Council (UK) Recognised.
       
  Course overview:   This course complies with the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid) Regulations
      1989. Offshore personnel are trained to a standard where they can administer basic First Aid
      on their own and provide assistance to the Offshore Medic when necessary.
       
  Course length:   4 days. Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford, or on Client's own site
      subject to suitable training facilities being available.

  Course includes:   Basic life support, CPR, AED's, use and maintenance of manual resuscitators, manual suction
      devices, oropharyngeal airways and oxygen supplies, treatment of injuries to bones, muscles
      and joints, assessment and treatment of shock, bleeding, management of the unconscious
      patient, hypothermia, hyperthermia, effects of immersion, poisons encountered offshore,
      treatment dressing & immobilisation of injuries, burns, eye injuries, smoke & hot gas
      inhalation, assessment and treatment of common major and minor illnesses, personal
      hygiene, universal hygiene procedures, patient transport and an understanding of the
      difficulties of transport by helicopter, the management of a patient during flight, stabilisation of
      a patient before transport, safe use of Entonox, effective communications in an emergency,
